San Vito Lo Capo (gro) Nature created it child-friendly, but people make it barrier-free: For Sicily’s dream beach in the very west of the sunny island, the slogan ” Zero Barrier ” applies. Also and especially disabled fellow human beings should be able to enjoy the beach life and feel safe.
Initiatives and local authorities.
Private initiatives and local authorities have joined forces in San Vito Lo Capo over the past few years to provide people with disabilities and their companions with the best possible bathing experience. There is plenty of space in the wide, fine-sand semicircle between the picturesque coastal mountains, whose rocky areas attract climbers from all over the world in spring and autumn.
Good reputation beyond Europe.
Also as a particularly disabled-friendly seaside resort in the southern Mediterranean San Vito Lo Capo has meanwhile earned a reputation that extends far beyond Sicily and now reaches as far as the United States and Canada. Nevertheless, only in July and August is it a bit crowded on the dream beach in the Wild West of the island. To the arrangement under the slogan “Zero barrier” belong at the well 2 kilometers long beach of San Vito Lo Capo not less than 20 well equipped aid stations, which are equipped among other things with defibrillators.
In September the Cous Cous Festival.
In spring and autumn the beach life in San Vito Lo Capo is rather quiet, and in September attracts not only the beach with its crystal clear sea, but also the annual Couscous Festival. In addition come mainly day visitors from the surrounding area, from Trapani and Palermo. Some restaurants, some of them excellent, offer the Maghrebian specialty throughout the year. It also fits too well with the fishing village of just under 5,000 souls, which with its flat, whitewashed cottages and countless small courtyards could just as easily be in nearby North Africa.
