Erice becomes the set for the “Aquaman”

san_pietroErice (gro) The medieval town of Erice,  its picturesque medieval  substance  (here the west portal of San Pietro), its maze of alleys and its hospitable inhabitants will become the set for a major US production.  Before the end of the year, filming for “Aquaman” is scheduled to start there on behalf of Warner Brothers (Los Angeles). The director is James Wan. The client in the background is DC Comics, the powerful U.S. publisher that has produced, among other things, “Batman”. As early as fall 2018, “Aquaman” is expected to hit theaters, according to reports in cinematic circles. Picturesquely situated on a 700-meter-high mountain peak on the Arabian-Sicilian Sea, Erice near Trapani is the ideal place for U.S. filmmakers to set “Aquaman,” for a hero whose mother comes from fabled Atlantis, for a man who can breathe underwater as a half-fish, grows up with dolphins and is eventually adopted by a lighthouse keeper. The Hollywood people, according to a report in the “Giornale di Sicilia”, will not only shoot in the historic center of Erice, but also in the Castello di Venere.

Pierfrancesco Diliberto praises the people of Erice.

It is not the first time that Erice, the mountain town high above Trapani with its nearly 30,000 inhabitants, provides the backdrop for a film. In recent years, Palermo filmmaker Pierfrancesco Diliberto (better known as “PIF”) shot his turbulent flick “In Guerra per Amore” here, a film that was well received by both critics and audiences. Diliberto praised the Ericiani: “It was wonderful to shoot in a location where the locals had never experienced it before and participated incredibly naturally”. Their fun will also  fence guests from all over Europe. Because Erice is also an international center for congresses and waits with numerous vacation homes and in its immediate vicinity also with vacation villas.

In-between with a razzle-dazzle beard.

The figure of the legendary “Aquaman”, who was invented 70 years ago, has been revised several times. This applies to the external appearance of the comic figure (whose naming rights, by the way, are held by Time Warner) as well as to the adventurous-fantastic story that surrounds him. Although he was portrayed in the 90s as a rather gloomy man with a beard, his original appearance as a well-trained, blond-haired young man has finally prevailed: an appearance that will most likely be followed by the cast in the film.
