Palermo – Jazz club takes over Santa Cecilia

PalermoPalermo (gro) The ” Brass Group di Palermo ” takes over “Real teatro di Santa Cecilia” the oldest theater building of recent times in Sicily’s capital Palermo. The “Brass Group” is the most important jazz club in Italy. It was founded in 1974 as a non-profit foundation. With its “Orchestra Jazz Siciliana” became the musical ambassador of Sicily around the world.

With funding from the region and the EU

.
The teatro di Santa Cecilia , built in 1853 as the first theater in Palermo by architects Carlo Giachery and Giovanni Di Bartolo even before the Politeama, the teatro Massimo and the teatro Biondo, had been empty for decades and was visibly in danger of falling into disrepair. With funds from the Region of Sicily and the European Community, it was awakened from its thorny sleep and renovated.

In the Arab Kalsa Quarter

.
The fact that it has now been awarded to the Jazz Foundation is mainly due to initiatives from the Sicilian regional parliament. The headquarters of the Foundation is located in the same district of the city, the Arab Kalsa quarter. There, members and guests of the “Brass Group” mainly perform at the Cultural Center dello Spasimo, whose centerpiece is a never-completed Gothic church from the early 16th century. The complex also includes a European Folk Music and Jazz School.
