Sicily expects “Caribbean Christmas

1-P1060054Palermo (gro) After a sunny October, Sicilians are expecting a “summery November” and a “Caribbean Christmas.” Blamed for this extravagant expectation is meteorologist Antonio Sanò, responsible for  the weather portal www.ilmeteo.it, where the seasonal weather pattern for Sicily is also presented. When direttore Salò fed current data into his computers for a longer-term forecast, the computers spit out a literally warming forecast. According to it, it will still be late summer warm in Sicily even at  Christmas.

Values well above average.

Since September, the “thermal” values in southern Italy have been well above the average of the past 30 years, Antonio Sanò states. The hot autumn, as the third season, is only noticeable in the shortening daytime. The “anomalies” will continue, the meteorologist predicts, even at Christmas the weather will  probably be more reminiscent of summer, all the more so because the days will then already be longer again.

Winter clothes can stay in the closet.

The unusual weather situation stabilizes in large parts of the Mediterranean. One can really feel sorry for the north of Italy, which is repeatedly hit by heavy rain and flooding this year. The weather in the north is also expected to be rather unfriendly around Christmas, according to meteorologists. In the south, on the other hand, you can leave your winter clothes in the closet this time, unless you head to the ski resorts at Ätna or to the highest mountains of Madonie, which rise up to  2000 meters in altitude.

Lower heating costs.

Not only the “natives” of Sicily, but also vacationers who regularly spend the winter in Sicily, should be happy about the “abnormal” weather. Firstly, there are now fewer heating costs, and secondly, it is wonderful to hike in this late summer winter, which, according to Antonio Sanò, is expected to transition seamlessly into a lush, blooming Sicilian spring.
