It is still too cold to swim in the water. But with air temperatures around 20 degrees and sunshine, it can be  outdoors and on the beach enjoyable dreaming towards spring   Sicily’s sun offers a lot of warmth. Sometimes, when the Scirocco blows from North Africa over the largest island of the Mediterranean, it is as if summer is already at the door. You don’t have to give up swimming completely, if you have time you can sail further south, where in the African Sea the islands of Lampedusa, Linosa and Pantellieria beckon with picturesque bathing bays and ripe citrus fruits.

Vacation apartments increasingly better equipped.

A lot has been invested in Sicily’s vacation homes in recent years, because homeowners also know:  Sicily is worth a trip all year round. However, even some luxurious vacation villas were only summer residences. Heating was scarce, and even today people sometimes use mobile radiators or fan heaters on cool nights. The majority of apartments and all vacation villas are now equipped with heating systems, often with underfloor heating, which makes terracotta floors so comfortable even in winter.

Summer begins in May at the latest.

The Sicilian summer begins in May at the latest and usually lasts until mid-October. Already now it is greening and blooming on protected,  coastal slopes of the Madonie or in the  hill country around Ragusa in southeastern Sicily that it is just such a joy. Until mid-May, the water on the beaches in the west and south of the island warms up so well that even particularly sensitive water rats can plunge into the refreshing water. After maximum temperatures in July and August (up to 27 degrees), the bathing water remains pleasantly warm at almost 20 degrees until the end of October.
